Foto-boxen.dk
An idea sparked by a photo booth in New York became a hand-built business that same year — and, to the best of my knowledge, Denmark’s first photo booth company.
The idea began during a trip to New York in 2013. In a shop, I stepped into a photo booth and experienced how simply it could create a genuine moment: press a button, wait a few seconds and hold a physical photograph in your hand. I brought home more than the photo strip. I brought home the idea.
That same year, I started the company and built the first Foto-box from scratch. It was a large, heavy construction made from flight cases on wheels, with a screen, camera, lighting, printer and black curtains. It worked, but it was cumbersome to transport, set up and fit through doorways. Those very challenges became the starting point for developing the design further.
I began renting out Foto-boxen.dk at weekends, and it quickly took off. Drawing on the experience of that first heavy model, I developed the solution into a more practical and distinctive turquoise Foto-box. During the four years the company existed, what began as an idea brought home from a journey and a self-built prototype grew into a major success with private celebrations, events, shops and brands. Foto-boxen appeared at events for ASOS and Carrera in Magasin, with guests leaving with their own photo strips in hand.
Foto-boxen.dk remained a project alongside my 37-hour working week. After four intense and successful years, I chose to close the company to prioritise my family. To the best of my knowledge, Foto-boxen.dk was Denmark’s first photo booth company, and I am still proud of having recognised the opportunity, built the entire solution myself and brought it to life among people. The project remains proof that one experience on a journey can become the beginning of something much bigger.
